In the recent film, Destination: Abaco, the team from SIMMS explores this special island in the northern Bahamas. The film tries to explain why this area holds such a magnetic pull for those who pursue gray ghosts.

Abaco delivers an experience as diverse as its waters. The Marls, a vast network of mangrove-lined flats and hidden creeks, teems with bonefish — some of which have never seen a fly. On the eastern side of the island, the deeper flats are home to larger, more elusive fish that challenge even the most seasoned anglers.

Bonefishing here is deeply rooted in Bahamian culture, with local guides serving as the lifeblood of this tradition. These folks are not just experts — they’re storytellers, stewards of the flats, and keepers of a way of life that’s been passed down for generations.

In the wake of Hurricane Dorian, Abaco has rebuilt, and its waters have rebounded. Organizations such as Bonefish & Tarpon Trust are working to protect critical habitats and ensure the sustainability of this vital resource for future generations.

Destination: Abaco celebrates what makes this island special: the fish, the flats, and the people who call it home. It’s a reminder of why anglers travel to Abaco — and why they always come back for more. SIMMS teamed up with with artist Jess Mudgett to create a limited series of Abaco-themed products. Both the Glades Hoody and Double Haul Cap offer full-function sun protection and go-everywhere comfort while giving a nod to one of the world’s finest fisheries.
