The Lorelei Cabana Bar team claimed bragging rights at the third annual Bartenders Dolphin Tournament, held Aug. 17 and 18 in the Florida Keys.

Fifty-four bartenders and restaurant staff competed aboard 13 boats, with teams vying for the heaviest combined weight of three mahi-mahi. The Lorelei crew — Dave Ruesch, Charles Jedda, George Nance, Amberly Boeles, Erik Nessensohn and Aaron Portegys — fishing aboard Tiki, brought in fish weighing 10, 16.4, and 20.6 pounds for a winning total of 47 pounds. Their prize included $1,500, a perpetual trophy from King Sailfish Release Mounts, and a first-place bar plaque sponsored by The Green House.

Wahoo’s Seafood Bar and Grill placed second with 39.8 pounds, earning $500 and a trophy sponsored by C&C Wood Fired Oven. Hungry Tarpon Restaurant took third with 29.7 pounds, winning $250 and a trophy sponsored by the Islander.

Top angler awards went to Lorelei’s George Nance (20.6 pounds), Wahoo’s Dominica Bevevino (16.9 pounds), and Lorelei’s Dave Ruesch (16.4 pounds).

The event wrapped up with food and drinks at The Florida Boy. Organizers say the friendly rivalry and community spirit are what keep teams coming back. Plans are underway for next year’s tournament.
