An 884-pound Atlantic bluefin tuna — a new pending Texas state record — was landed after a five-hour battle by the crew aboard Catillac, a 46-foot Invincible Catamaran, 160-plus miles offshore in the Gulf.

What makes this catch extraordinary is that it was accomplished from an outboard-powered center console vessel during a 36-hour round-trip expedition with rough waters. The crew originally planned for a much shorter trip targeting blue marlin.

This 884-pound bluefin tuna was caught 160 miles offshore in the Gulf.

Angler David Esslinger fought the massive fish using stand-up gear with a Release Marine Battle Saddle, while Capt. Carson Deer and crew TC Swetman, Brad Hildebrandt, Jeff Young, and Colby Denbow provided support.

“This trip would not have been possible without our Invincible 46-foot Cat,” said Deer. “With 1,000 gallons of fuel capacity and storage for 1,500 pounds of ice, we can safely venture where most center consoles can’t — even in rough conditions.”
