Spanish Fly, the groundbreaking fishing and adventure series originally hosted by Jose Wejebe, will return in 2026 through a collaboration between the late Wejebe’s daughter, Krissy Wejebe, and Outdoor America, led by Emmy-nominated producer James Marko.

Beloved by millions for its cutting-edge angling, cinematic storytelling and the charisma of Wejebe, Spanish Fly redefined outdoor programming and became the highest-rated saltwater fishing show ever. While Wejebe’s unexpected passing at 54 years old in 2012 left a profound void — he died when his home-built Comp Air 8 aircraft crashed shortly after he had taken off from Everglades Airpark in Everglades City, Florida — his legacy lives on through his foundation, his family and the unforgettable stories captured on film.

More than a decade later, Krissy Wejebe is honoring her father’s mission by reviving Spanish Fly — a revival that will bring the elder Wejebe’s spirit back to the water, with storytelling that blends the past and present. Marko joins as co-host, helping bridge the generational legacy.

“My dad didn’t just change the way people fish — he changed the way they feel about fishing,” Wejebe said. “He brought heart, humility and curiosity to every cast, and that’s what made Spanish Fly more than a show — it became a connection.

“ ‘Fishing for the next generation’ wasn’t just a tagline for him; it was his mission. Now, with this incredible team and new journey ahead, we’re not just keeping his legacy alive — we’re passing it on. Because let’s be honest, the world could use a little more Jose,” she added.

Spanish Fly will air on Outdoor America’s 87-million-household broadcast platform, along with Samsung TV Plus and Amazon Prime. A blend of new episodes and “best of” originals will roll out across two quarters, reaching 34 percent of U.S. TV households and offering fans both nostalgia and fresh adventure.

“Jose was a pioneer,” Marko said. “Recreating Spanish Fly alongside Krissy and the people who knew and worked with Jose best is an honor. This isn’t a reboot — it’s a revival of something sacred.”

As part of the revival, Spanish Fly and Outdoor America will also spotlight the Jose Wejebe Spanish Fly Memorial Foundation, founded in April 2012. The foundation is dedicated to making fishing dreams come true for those facing life-changing challenges, while honoring Jose’s passion for the ocean and commitment to giving back through meaningful, on-the-water experiences.

“There’s never been another show like Spanish Fly — nothing even comes close,” said Outdoor America executive vice president Jamie Wilkinson. “And that’s not just me saying it to be nice. It’s still the highest-rated saltwater fishing show ever made. I had the privilege of working with Jose personally, so I saw firsthand the magic he brought to the screen. We couldn’t be more honored to help continue that legacy with Krissy and those closest to him. At Outdoor America, we believe in family — and this revival is about bringing Jose’s spirit back to the water for the next generation.”

Episodes are in production and are scheduled to premiere early next year. Viewers can expect breathtaking destinations, emotional storytelling and the same authenticity that made Spanish Fly a beloved name in outdoor television.
